The Novice Principals Academy exists to change that.
Designed for incoming principals (Year 0) and first and second-year principals, this program ensures that leaders don’t just survive their early years—they excel, lead boldly, and create lasting impact. The Novice Principal Academy is a comprehensive, high-impact experience that provides the skills, mindset, and support new principals need to step into leadership with confidence from day one.
Through personalized coaching, on-the-ground problem-solving, and immersive learning experiences, leaders will sharpen their ability to elevate student achievement, build strong school cultures, and make data-informed decisions that drive long-term success. Year 0 Experience
By engaging in learning and development before stepping into the principal seat, participants gain a strategic advantage—developing a clear leadership vision, building coalitions, strengthening decision-making skills, and anticipating challenges before they arise. This proactive approach ensures new principals enter their roles prepared, confident, and ready to lead with impact from day one.
Virtual Modules
Seven self-paced modules designed to equip aspiring principals with the foundational knowledge, practical tools, and strategic frameworks needed to transition into school leadership with confidence. Participants will engage in scenario-based learning, reflective exercises, and implementation guides to build readiness before stepping into principalship.
Coaching
Our coaching model provides consistent, personalized support to help incoming principals navigate the complexities of successorship. Coaching sessions are tailored to each leader’s context and growth areas, ensuring they build confidence and competence in critical areas.
This dedicated thought partnership helps novice leaders accelerate their learning, avoid common missteps, and confidently lead their schools with clarity and purpose.
Site Visits
As part of our coaching model, each transitioning leader receives at least one on-site school visit from their coach. These visits allow the coach to observe the school’s daily operations, shadow leadership moves, and provide in-the-moment feedback grounded in the leader’s real environment.
Site visits create a powerful opportunity for leaders to receive support that’s deeply contextualized—enhancing coaching impact, reinforcing program learning, and helping the leader identify both quick wins and long-term strategies to drive school improvement.
Year 1 & 2 Experience
Leadership Retreat
A dedicated space to step away from the day-to-day demands and focus on your growth as a leader. This retreat provides time for reflection, strategic planning, and deep connection with fellow novice principals, ensuring you return to your school re-energized and equipped with actionable strategies.
Virtual Cohort Sessions
These live, interactive sessions aligns to a key leadership competency from our proven Novice Principal Blueprint, a tried-and-true playbook designed to help principals build strong systems, drive academic excellence, and create thriving school cultures. Through collaborative learning, real-time problem-solving, and expert-led discussions, you’ll leave each session with practical, research-backed strategies you can immediately implement.
Coaching & Mentorship
Leadership can be isolating, but you won’t navigate it alone. Through ongoing, one-on-one coaching, you’ll receive personalized guidance to tackle challenges, refine your leadership approach, and stay ahead of the demands of the role. Each session is designed to help you problem-solve in real-time and grow with intention.
